With that being said, the Word of God gives us some basic information that serves as a foundation for living. First, the Bible tells us where we came from. God created everything (Genesis 1-2) and intended for all of creation to live in harmony and order in the beautiful Garden of Eden. But, soon after creation humanity chose to rebel against God and do things their own way by following the will of Satan (Genesis 3). Because of this choice, the order of creation portrayed in Genesis 2 was turned to chaos where bad things began to happen. Yet, the story of Scripture gives us lots of good news. In spite of our sinful choices, God through His Son Jesus Christ gives us hope (1 Corinthians 15:50-58). Because Jesus came to earth and lived a perfect life we have hope. Because He as the Perfect Lamb of God was crucified in our place we have hope (John 19:16-30). Because three days later, on the first day of the week, He was raised from the dead we have hope (Matthew 28:1-15). Because He has ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of the throne of God we have hope (Acts 1:9-11). Because a place of reward is being prepared for us, much like the Garden of Eden from Genesis, we have hope (John 14:1-3). Thus, knowing God’s Word gives us a different perspective.
Second, the Bible tells us where we are going. There are two paths in life: one leads to life through Jesus Christ and the other leads to death and destruction (Matthew 7). Third, the Bible tells us why we are here. God has put us on this planet to glorify Him and show others God’s intent for humanity in the way we live. The church is intended to be a walking brochure of God’s intent for humanity. Sure , there is still sickness, death, heartache, and hypocrisy anytime people are involved in anything, but we strive (even in our imperfections) to be like Christ.
So, what about Goodwood? What are we? We are not a group a perfect people, but rather a group of people who have been called out from the world to serve a Perfect God through His Perfect Son Jesus Christ. We are not a cult, but we are Christians who want to serve Christ in a way that stays true to His Word and relevant to the community. We are not a part of any official denominational group with an earthly headquarters or president, instead we are simply a group of local Christians who want to be like Jesus and follow Him. We are striving to be Christ-centered in what we believe, how we worship, and how we live. We pray that you will consider visiting us at any service or contacting us at the church office.
